Fred has had a long career as a tool maker and is a talented craftsman. Winthrop Tackle was born when he demanded higher quality components for his own fishing rods. Winthrop is an American-made manufacturer of the finest quality, custom sport-fishing products that are used by some of the best sportfishing boats all over the world.

The continuous evolution of Winthrop's product lines starts with the input from experienced rod builders and world-class fishermen. Incorporating the latest angling techniques with solutions to problems that fishermen encounter on the water, Fred and and the crew at Winthrop create innovative products with an elegant design. Every prototype they create goes through refining and improvements before it is approved for production. Winthrop then verifies top-performance thorough rigorous field testing by partner captains and crews before a product is ready for market.
